My dear friend from the Hill, Suzanne, has been such a great friend to me. She's one of those people without children who are really good with children and thankfully she is looking for a home in my neighborhood. I'm hoping in a not so distant season she will have children of her own. (so they can be friends with Wy)
Suzanne doesn't mind spending time with our family and our craziness and last weekend she willingly spent her Sunday morning with us taking pictures. Here are a few of my favorites. Thank you Suzanne. I owe you one!

Ice Cream Party
Every June the International Dairy Foods Association (in honor of July being national ice cream month) hosts a ice cream party for Senate staff in the Senate Upper Park. This year I brought my camera, and our nanny brought Mr. Wy. It made for a fun afternoon before going home from work.
Mr. Wy's girls...
Too bad I have my new dairy allergy. :( I rewarded (!!) my self control by going home and enjoying my new favorite SOY ice cream from Trader Joes.

To Cry Or Not To Cry
This is how I found Mr. Wy this morning. This pose is the best way to describe his personality: laid back.
Oh Mr. Wy, how you make my mornings so darn exciting.
And my nights...
To cry or not to cry, that is the question.
I never knew that this question was so controversial in world of parenting. Mr. Wy is a great sleeper, but we have our issues with 'going down'. And lately we've done some research. Here is a discussion of two different sleep philosphies. (in case you are interested) This is only one of the many decisions that Tim and I need to start making as parents. It's just the beginning...
On another note, this past week I got to hang out with 2 other working moms. It was so encouraging to talk with others who are in similar circumstances. Thanks Emily and Alison! And btw: Alison owns her own business. Check it out here

Father's Day
We started off our Father's Day by going to some cheap/chain diner! (Because momma didn't make reservations, and it was open 24 hours. We arrived at 6am.)
Someone was tired....(I wonder why)
So, Plato's Diner was empty at 6am in the morning so I brought out Wy's toy to keep him occupied. (normally he's busy people watching)
And what did Tim want for his first Father's Day? To make short ribs!!! Yep, my husband loves to cook. They were amazing.
And for dessert? Homemade popcicles- rhubarb and strawberry. My husband is the best.
All in all, it was a great day. Wy's father didn't have a 'day off' for Father's Day, but he did get to cook, so I think he's happy. It's been a rough weekend. Wy had a fever on Friday night so we've stayed in most of the day on Saturday and Sunday. Our two family outings consisted of 1)the diner and 2) buy buy baby (a baby store) to buy Mr. Wy's convertible seat. We are trading in his infant seat for a fancy seat that will hold him up to 70 pounds. Just another reminder that he's growing up...
I tend to freak out and get emotional about the things I've mentioned above, but Wy's dad takes all things in stride. I'm so thankful that Wy has a father with characteristics like him. He will learn about the Lord through his dad, he will feel so so loved by his dad, and he will grow up to be a better person because of his father.
Happy Father's Day to my co-parent and love, Tim.

Mr. Wy Turns One
Someone in my house had his first Birthday last week. Happy Birthday Mr. Wy. It's my opinion that first birthdays should be celebrations/parties for the mothers. (the child doesn't know what's going on anyway...)Seriously. I fed this little man for an entire year. Amazing. I made it. I survived his first year of life!!! When I thought about Wy's first birthday a few months ago, I wanted to plan something BIG. I thought I'd make a nice cake and have a huge party with all our friends.
What happened?
Mom and dad were indecisive about a date (because we were in FL for his birthday)
Mom and dad were tired from Wy's week long sickness
Mom and dad could only think packing and planning for THEIR vacation
So we had a spontaneous party of 4: Wy, mom, dad, and gma.
Thank God gma brought gifts for him to open. Oh yes, I didn't bring a gift. (still trying to find more excuses)
Candle and cake from the local grocery store and ice cream from the resorts ice cream shop :)
While at the grocery store (the only grocery store on the island. I'm sooo glad they had a bakery!!) I was dealing with a ton of mommy guilt. I didn't plan a party for Wy. I didn't bake a cake for Wy. I didn't even buy a card or gift for Wy. Eek.
But you know what? Wy didn't eat even a bite of the cake. He touched it, rubbed it on his shirt, and dropped it on the table.
Tim, my mom, and I just laughed and laughed. Our afternoon celebration with a piece of grocery store cake turned out to be a very memorable time. And I captured it all on film...
And the end result? This is what the adults did with Wy's birthday dessert :)
Thinking back on the day, I'm so glad it turned out the way it did. We didn't have a fancy cake, we didn't have a banner with Wy's name on it, we didn't have a huge party with a lot of gifts--but what we did have was a ton of love. And a lot of crazy moments which made for a unforgettable afternoon.

Vaca
Vacations are very different with children. I really enjoyed Florida and South Seas Resort, but Mr. Wy didn't sleep very well and that made for a tired momma.
Before I had Mr. Wy I went to the beach at least once and maybe twice a year. Beaches were about rest and relaxation. I use to lay out by the beach and swim in the ocean all day. This time I took turns with my mom and husband to stay in our room for Wy's 2 daily naps. Ha.
South Seas was amazing. I grew up going to Sanibel Island (where the resort is located) so it was extra special for me to go back. The entire trip I had memory upon memory of my grandparents and my time spent on their boat. I miss them. I wish they were still around to see their great grandson.
Highlights of the trip:
Mr. Wy's birthday
Almost dying on the back of a waverunner that my husband was driving
Eating key lime pie at every restaurant (to see which one was best!!)
Visiting my favorite place for Florida oranges and grapefruit and trying the samples
Seeing Mr. Wy love the water
Feeling the soft Florida sand on my toes
Swimming in the ocean
Grouper- and a couple wonderful dates with Tim
Florida sunsets
The pool slide Tim and I rode a few times (with all the other children on the resort)
Visiting the gravesite of my grandparents
Key Lime fro yo
Watching Mr. Wy fall in love with my mom (his gma)
Not thinking about work or DC!!!
Here are a few photos to enjoy:
1st time in a pool!
Key Lime Pie
In the ocean...
Resort pool.
Favorite of Wy and Gma.
Birthday pics to come soon.
Welcome back to the 'real' world, Lisa :)

Jen's Baby Shower
I waited for a lonnnng time to find Tim. 33 years to be exact. I know about waiting.
So does my friend Jen. She has been waiting for a baby for a long time. Due in 3 weeks, we celebrated this long awaited baby God has given her over brunch this morning.
Congrats to my beautiful pregnant friend, Jen. God has answered your prayers. I'm rejoicing with you!
And here is a shot of the baby Mascho's crib...it is a crib that's been in her husband's family- in fact, it was her husband's crib. Amazing. I love it.
On another note, I've been mia because we had a sick baby again this week. Poor Mr. Wy has had a ear infection and virus. Terrible. I'm still planning to add more pics from my Memorial Day weekend.
We are also headed on our vacation this week. It is Mr. Wy's one year birthday and we plan to celebrate in a special place. Can't wait to share more soon...
