I need some relief. I plan to dodge the big event this weekend and will be here instead:
Playing with Wy and some other friends on/in these:
If need be, I'd gladly stay here all week.

August Update
This month has flown by. The Senate's been in recess (yes, it's like summer break around here) so I've had a much much lighter work load. It's afforded me to spend more time with my son and at home- both for which I'm grateful. Of course, our computer at home is broken (time for a new one) and I haven't been paying much attention to my blackberry. It's been refreshing to be 'out of touch' with the virtual world. Here's the latest August update in pictures:
Saying bye to Grandma who stayed with Wy for 3 whole weeks:
Getting my annual liver MRI at Georgetown Hospital (which made me think of Mr. Wy and his arrival there a little over a year ago) with support from my dear friend Amy!
(We've taken each other to various doctors appointments over the years...isn't it great to have a friend that will accompany you to a MRI?!) Miss Am also spent time with me and Mr. Wy at home.
Did I mention spending time with Wy at home?!
We got to hang out with new friends from church and go swimming on top of their high rise building:
Made allergy free food like these amazing cookies: (and raw brownies from my new favorite blog site)
Visited a friend's home for a delish gluten free/dairy free meal: (and a girls night out!)
Not only did I take Mr. Wy to work (and he took his first nap in the Capitol), I survived my first ever earthquake. It's been one eventful month...

Gluten Free/Dairy Free Kitchen Sink Health Cookies AND a Date!
I spent most of last weekend eating my gluten free/dairy free health cookies!!! I'm absolutely crazzzzy about them (so is my husband) and if you decide to make them, you will not be disappointed. Besides being really healthy for you, they taste amazing and that's why I've decided to highlight them again.
They are made with honey, (instead of sugar) olive oil, (instead of vegatable oil) and almond flour (instead of bleached flour).
1 1/4 cups gluten free oats (if you want to make them gluten free- otherwise you can use regular oats)
1 1/4 cups almond flour
3/4 cup unsweetened coconut flakes
1/2 tsp sea salt (if you don't have this item in your home, you should.. :))
1/2 tsp baking powder
1 tsp cinnamon
1/2 tsp ginger
1/8 tsp cloves (I didn't have, so I didn't use)
1/8 tsp nutmeg
1 tsp vanilla
1/4 cup olive oil
1/4 cup honey
2 eggs (or if you are vegan, 1/2 cup water with 2 Tb ground flax seeds)
Optional:
1/4 cup raisins
1/4 cup choc chips
Combine dry ingredients
Combine liquid ingredients
Mix dry and liquid together
Add choc chips, raisins etc
Place 1 inch scoops of cookie dough on un-greased cookie sheet
Bake 350F for 10-12 min
PS- Besides eating cookies, I got to go out with Tim for a much needed date this weekend... He took me to Cafe Atlantico which is now America Eats Tavern opened by the same chef, Jose Andres, on July 4th. This new restaurant is in partnership with the National Archives exhibition program and offers a "new taste on the American classics."
From their website: "With recipes and stories collected through extensive research, and with help from the National Archives and a culinary advisory council of chefs and scholars, the menu showcases the fascinating history of our nation one plate at a time, whether it’s the origins of New England clam chowder or the introduction of grapefruit to America."
During dinner, Tim and I discussed that being able to go out to an interesting (not to mention delicious) restaurant is one of the many reasons we love living in a city.
And a before dinner pic with Wy :)

Fire Chief Hat
My husband's first memory was of a red fire chief hat that his parents gave him. Last week Tim's mom and I went to the thrift store and stumbled upon a similar looking red fire chief hat. We just had to buy it for Mr. Wy.
Tim was out of town for a few days last week and finally returned from New Orleans on Friday night. I went to pick him up from the Metro and while I was away, his mom took Mr. Wy outside, put the red fire chief hat on him, and let him run around until we returned.
When we pulled up, this is what we saw:
Pure joy!!! And huge smiles.
And one excited dad...

Gelato in Georgetown
Gelato in Georgetown. Dolcezza is my new dairy free 'go to' place for dessert. I went twice this weekend. Once on a date with my husband, and another with my son and mother in law. I got cucumber vodka mint both times! Yum.
(notice the wet hair. It was a HOT day)

Reading with Grandma
Mr. Wy's Grandmothers have been taking care of him while we are in between nannies. We are all so grateful for all the time they have spent together. What priceless memories for this little boy.
